We’re a mere two days away from the official end of winter. But truthfully, it may be a while until things actually warm up enough to step out on the town in your new lace-up sandals. So I've decided to take this time to embrace that awkward stage between the worst of winter and the best of spring. Take a look at my list to find my six essentials for a foolproof transitional wardrobe. SLEEVELESS TRENCH This season, try a piece that’s tailor-made for the in-between season: the sleeveless trench. I suggest wearing it now over black pants or jeans, then later alone with chic lace-up sandals. BREEZY CULOTTES Culottes are staples when it comes to transitional dressing because they can be worn with multiple forms of footwear. Keep your calves toasty on those chilly mornings by teaming your culottes with ankle boots, and then lighten things up with pom-pom sandals come those glorious 35-degree days. FRESH PAIR OF SUNGLASSES Contrary to popular belief, sunglasses aren’t just a warm-weather accessory, they’re a year-round necessity. That’s because damaging UVA and UVB rays are always present, even on the coldest, cloudiest days. I recommend investing in a pair you look forward to wearing so that you’ll be sure to always have them on hand. CROPPED LEATHER JACKET Shearling-lined leather bombers may have populated every fashion trend page this past winter, but we’re staying strong to the tried-and-true moto version. A leather jacket that’s on the thinner side (bonus points if it’s slightly cropped) is great for the changing seasons because it can be worn under a robe or blanket coat. PEEP-TOE ANKLE BOOTS Popping up like daisies, peep-toe booties are an “it” shoe for spring. These babies offer the structure of a stacked heel bootie with the carefree feeling of a fresh pedicure. They also happen to be perfect if you’re not quite ready to part with your ankle boots. CASHMERE CARDIGAN Honestly, this is a year-round essential--there’s nothing as versatile yet chic as the cashmere cardi. Buy yours in a slightly oversized style so that it drapes nicely over whatever you choose to pair it with (hint: see culottes above).
